Color Kinetics Interactive LED Facade

I was involved in a research and development project for creating an interactive LED facade with Color Kinetics Japan and RANAGRAM. We set approximately 1,000 LED lamps on the back of an iron lattice installed on the 4 x 2.5 m wall. Indirect lighting can make subtle visual patterns by employing the reflection of light to the wall. Geometric patterns that change shapes as time goes by and animations that is based on a sound spectrum are generated by using Perlin noise. You can change the density and color of patterns by using the iPad controller. In the tracking mode, outlines of spectators are detected by Kinect sensor and illustrated on the wall screen. When spectators move, the motion of spectators are gradually illustrated with changing its color through optical flow algorithm. We presented this project as a concept work for Live Entertainment and Event Expo 2014 at Tokyo Big Sight. We are planning to adapt this work to a real building soon.
